How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??

any idea of how to change brake pads on this type of car?How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??front brake pads are the easiest to do. I simply jack it up put stands in place for safety. pull the wheels, install a 5/16's vacuum hose on the bleader nipple put the other end of the hose in a clear glass container with aprx 1/3 full of brake fluid in the bottom . then i open the bleader valve and gently compress the pad s toward the inside to free up the calipers from the rotors. I close the valve , remove the bolts holding the caliper to the support arms, remove the caliper and tie it up to keep it secured and not pulling on the flex line. the pads are held in by spring metal clips ans simply slip away from the rotor direction the face. now I use an old brake pad against the caliper piston and I use a clamp , open that bleeder valve again and cmpress the pistons till they are flush to the caliper housing. I examine the rotors for ridges but prefer to turn them for at least a clean up 10 thousand's. this insure smooth stopping. install the new pads with disc quiet applied to the backs of the pads where the dirt was not on the old pads and a little anti seaze where the pads set on the spring metal. reinstall the calipers and torque the bolts that hold the caliper on. top the fluid in the master and blead the brakes starting on the wheel furthest from the master (passenger side front) then the drivers front. if done right you have good smooth brakes. if wrong you have spoungy brakes. How to change cs camry 1989 front brakes??http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/090

How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?

Honda dealership tells me my rear pads will need attention soon which I later found out is common with this model. Front pads still have 8mm. They just didnt specify how soon? One month? Next oil change? I only have 22,000 miles on this car and yes I think it is a bit premature to be repacing rear pads especially before the front but I want to make sure I dont wait too long and then have them tell me I need new rotors too!!!!!How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Hard to say without knowing how much you drive a day or what your braking habbits are...

Hold on a minute, let me get out my magic ball. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honestly your under the %26quot;limits%26quot; and need to just replace both now. it may seem stupid, but honestly it needs to be done before you warp the rotor or ruin the surface.

you do know that your front brakes do 90% of the braking while the rear only does 10% correct? if it was true 50/50 the rear brakes would lock up everytime you hit the brakes. on older cars that have disfunctional brake proportioning valves, the rear tires will lock up when you hit the brakes hard.

Just replace em before it ends up costing you more. and just a tip, if you turn the rotor while your there, the brake pads will last longer. just make sure the rotor is not at its minimal thickness. the people at autozone/napa will have a micrometer to measure the thickness to verify if it can be turned or not.How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?22,000 miles is pretty early to be replacing brakes, but it really depends on your driving habits. We just did the brakes on my wife's car at 65,000 and it was just the front pads. There is no way to tell how long yours will last. An additional tip....take it to a good local brake shop for an inspection and a second opinion. I would not suggest going to Autozone or any similar parts store. The staff there are low paid people who know little about cars. All they know is how to sell parts. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honda considers 2 mm the time to replace brake pads. As for how many miles you have left, it depends on driving habits (like the others said), and how much city vs. highway driving, etc. You're OK for now but keep an eye on them.

  • How do i change the brakes on a 1994 acura integra?

I need to figure out how to change the rear and front brake pads on my 1994 acura integra???? Can someone help please??How do i change the brakes on a 1994 acura integra?First you'll need a caliper tool. It looks like a little box. You can attach it to a rachet and use it to back off the calipers. You can pick it up a the parts store where you get your brake pads.

Then you remove the wheels, use the tool to back off the caliper, remove old pads, put in new ones.

Just remamber to pump the break a little bit before you take the car any where. How do i change the brakes on a 1994 acura integra?if yeu are not capable of doing it yourself you can always take your car to a machanic and have them change your brake pads for you.

You can also go buy a chilton or haynes manual for your car.

How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?

It's really annoying. I put in new brake pads, but I didn't change the sensors and I'm not going to because they are stupid expensive for a feature thats pretty unneeded. Is there any way to keep this light off for good? It comes on every time I turn on the car and I have to hit the arrow up to turn it to something else.

Also, are those sensors the possible reason for the annoying chirp I hear while driving? It sounds like its coming from the wheel in the front but the rotors are new, brake pads are new and everything is in sound shape yet it makes the most annoying chirp ever. Could this be because the car thinks it needs new brake pads so its telling me to change by chirp and by stupid light on the dash? How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?put a piece of black electrical tape over the light or buy the sensors. The chirp could be a number of things.

Ghetto fag? lmao. You're the idiot complaining about the light and you know you need the sensors replaced...which will fix the light..but of course you want a way around it....No not ghetto but u sound like a fag!How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?yes it all could be because of bad sensor you might want to find out which fuse controls the light and maybe pull the light good luckHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?pull the fuse, or just cut the wire, ya dont need it anyways, you can pretty much tell when u need new brake padsHow do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?it also could be a wheel bearing too.

    How to depress brake caliper?

96 Toyota Camry, changing the front brake pads, she is missing the small screw used to breed the brake to release the pressure from the caliper. Is there another way to depress the caliper w/out loosening that screw? How to depress brake caliper? There is no pressure to be released. The piston must be pushed into the caliper with a tool. A pair of large channel lock pliers will do it if you've got enough grip because it takes a good bit of pressure to move the caliper. Auto parts stores sell the tool to do it with. Also a c-clamp will do it. Just be sure to press on the old brake pad and not the piston.

rkbHow to depress brake caliper?if missing small screw[ bleeder] all fluid will leak out..u cant tell me theres no way to bleed system.... but what you need to do is use a c clamp or actual tool made for that...sounds like u need shop manual or friend who knows cars [mechanic]How to depress brake caliper?yeah get a C-clamp and press it in or you can leave it bolted on the car and put a screwdriver between the rotor and brake-pad and press it in . but a C-clamp will take it in all the way. if you do that you wont have to bleed the system . if you take the screw out you will have to bleed the systemHow to depress brake caliper?Actually the caliper does not compress, it's the movable piston inside the caliper that will compress by sliding a large C clamp behind the caliper and screwing down the center of the outboard disc brake pad. There's no need to open the bleeder screws to do this. The fluid merely flows back up into your master-cylinder reservoir.

I'm somewhat mystified how you keep brake fluid in your brake caliper if the actual bleeder screw is missing. Believe me, it can't happen unless the caliper has an obstruction where the bleeder screw is threaded into the piston housing. If it is you'd be better off installing a re-built caliper so that you can bleed and flush your entire brake system with fresh brake fluid.

As brake fluid ages it becomes contaminated with water. The boiling point of the fluid drops dramatically and increased brake petal pressure is a direct result. This can lead to rust in the brake lines, wheel cylinders and caliper pistons. How to depress brake caliper?Use a C clamp or a tyre lever the fluid will return to the master cylinderHow to depress brake caliper?Just use a c-clamp and compress it it.How to depress brake caliper?REMOVE THE BRAKE RESERVOIR CAP AND CHECK THE FLUID BEFORE YOU COMPRESS THE PISTON AND IF IT IS FULL JUST REMOVE SOME.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PISTON DEPRESSOR THEN YOU CAN USE A C-CLAMP AND AT THE SAME TIME USE ONE OF THE OLD PADS ACROSS THE PISTON AND TIGHTEN DOWN THE C-CLAMP ACROSS THE OLD PAD EVENLY AND DO ONE SIDE AT A TIME.

AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED ONE SIDE JUST PUMP THE BRAKES SLOWLY AND RECHECK THE FLUID, SAME FOR OTHER SIDE.

  • Question about brake pads?

How difficult would it be for me to change my front brake pads and routers on my car?Question about brake pads? It's not difficult at all, but the C-clamp to push the cylinder back in on the caliper is a must.

Get online and check out you make and model. I would do it for you if I were there.Question about brake pads?If you know about working on car then it wont be very hard. You can find directions somewhere online. you will need some basic tools as well.Question about brake pads?Depends on the car and if you have the right tools. In addition to a socket wrench set, you'll need a C-clamp that is large enough to fit over the caliper so that you can push the piston back in. Some cars are pretty straight forward, others can be more difficult.

Personally, while I'm not a mechanic, I've replaced brake pads on 3 different makes of cars (some foreign, some domestic) without a hitch. It's something that everyone should know how to do.Question about brake pads?Changing pads and rotors is not difficult if you have the correct tools. If you are serious about doing your own work it is well worth the extra $20.00 to get a Chilton's, Haynes or Motor Age manual tailored to your car. They have step by step procedures with pictures. Personally, I prefer Chilton's because that's what I grew up with. Chilton's DIY has an online subscription service but I prefer to have a hard copy of the manual I can keep in the garage. I hate getting the keyboard greasy.

Auto-zone also has online directions, but I still like Chilton's.Question about brake pads?By yourself? The most difficult part, for me, is in getting enough of a lift on my car for me to comfortably work. Replacing the pads and rotors isn't that hard...it's not like rebuilding a carburetor or anything. Just make sure that you have a good instruction booklet (I recommend Chilton's...and you can buy it according to your make/model).Question about brake pads?If you have no knowledge of the workings of a car, don't try it yourself. Ask one of your guy friends to do it. It's not that hard but you have to have some understanding of the steps involved. The newer the car, the more difficult it can get. You want your brakes put on correctly.Question about brake pads?If you have never done it before it's difficult as you don't know what your doing, you need someone to show you one time how to do it and then the next time it will be easy, brakes are a very important part of the car so don't try to do the job yourself if you have no clue.

How to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina?

I'm need to change just the front brake pads on a 2001 Chevy Lumina, and I have now idea what I'm doing so I'm asking for your guidance.

If you have any website links that you think would be helpful please post.

Thanks in advance! How to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina?1.put a piece of wood under the rear tire, %26lt;will prevent car from rolling back%26gt; 2.open the hood remove the cap on the master cylinder if low on oil do not refill, low fluid is a indication or worn out brakes since its a sealed system unless there is a leak you should never have to replace fluid.3.jack up front end either as a whole or one side at a time use a jack stand under the frame rail, lower car onto jack stand.4. pull the wheel off.5 loosen the caliper bolts normally this is a large hex bolt

remove calipers remove pads look at old pads for un even wear or burns

or cracks indication for bad calipers should be even wear on both pads

check the rotor which is what the wheel bolts too, look for blue-ing

or small cracks grooves etc if you find any replace the caliper or have them turned at a machine shop average price in my state 25 dollars a wheel some times and some places are cheaper to buy new ones get a can of brake cleaner at a parts store you'll need to use specific cleaners other wise there might be a residue and you won't stop,6 get a rag and large pair of channel locks put rag over piston in caliper slowly compress with the master cylinder cap off this should be easy

you do not need to bleed brakes that's only when you crack open a Zerk fitting and we haven't done that here, once piston is compressed all the way into the caliper your ready for new pads, first go wash your hands grease is a brake system worst nightmare most disk brakes come with a little tube of glue called anti chatter glue this is applied to the back of the pads let that sit a minute to set then install the new pads carefully put caliper back onto rotor and re bolt down do a visual check to make sure you did not disconnect anything else.

then put the wheel back on that side is done do the same for the other wheel. with all that said and done now you know how to change the brakes on every car with disk brakes they are all the same type system the only thing that varies is to bolts holding the calipers

and the calipers themselves rotors are rotors all the same, with that being done pretty simple kind of makes you wonder why it costs 400 dollars to do a brake job.

    hope this helps

LrHow to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina? You should be able to go to AUTOZONE.COM and find a repair manual online that will show diagrams for your vehicle. If not you can go to your local parts store and they will probably have a repair manual for your carHow to change the brakes on 01' Chevy Lumina?all you need to do is pull the tire off, take a c-clamp and push the caliper piston in, take out 2 bolts and lift the caliper off. change the pads and install the caliper and tighten the bolts. make sure you pump the brakes up after you get done.

How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes?

My friend is changing the front pads on my honda accord. He said it should take a couple hours. I'm bringing a 12 pack of beer over as the requested payment, but what would be a fair monetary/$$$ amount? How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes? He said just bring beer so just do that. Keep in mind most new Hondas take ceramic pads so make sure you put ceramic pads back on it. I also hope he has a brake lathe at his house because if you dont turn the rotors, I guarantee your brakes will squeak and then you will need to take it to a shop and have the resurfacing done for around 100.00How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes?it really depends, if he is working hard then reward him. beer is pretty good. maybe make him a dinner . lolHow much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes? The cost of the brake pads could be $40 or so. Depending on the year of your Honda (90-97?), your friend may have a big surprise in store for him or her in that some Hondas require a special tool to remove the front rotors if they need resurfacing. How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes?Parts all paid for if they only requested a six pack/ then why argue with them should take less than hour/ if it takes more then offer some money if refused! then maybe later take out to dinner somewhere? How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes? If he requested a 12 pack then give him a 12 pack. He set the price, you agreed to meet it. Done deal. If you want to sweeten the pot to make sure he will do the other breaks when they need changing give him a $20 gift card to the local steak house, or restaurant he likes but not cash.

*EDIT if they are moving give him a gift card to Lowe's they will need it more than the food one.How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes?Normally a 12-18 pack of beer is an accepted form of payment. $20 if you not buy beer. OR both, a 12 pack and $20. PLUS you buy the parts.

This how I do for friends. Front brakes are not too hard if a person have the correct tools.

But, it kinda like a Waiter/Waitress. Sometimes we tip more or less depending on service. I have had Elderly people give me $30 and an apple pie. $20 would have been plenty for myself, but, those apple pies are hard to turn down! ;-)

I figure brakes on average cost about $25 for front. Many shops charge around $80 +/- so that about $55 for labor. This may give you a guide as to what it cost elsewhere and maybe you want to pay more than $20 and less than $55. Also, consider any cleaning supplies he may need. How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes? If he asked for a 12-pack, but you feel this is not enough, get him a 30-pack instead. Or make it a 12-pack of Guinness. As far as $$$, make sure you cover all his expenses -- reimburse him for parts and stuff.

If he's into anything BUT beer, you could get him some of that too. =)How much should i pay a friend to change/fix my front brakes?Front pads should be in the $20-$25 range and it shouldn't take an hour to change them if he has all the proper tools. Replacing rotors, if needed, will take about a minute more and the last ones I got were about $25 each.

car and support on safety stands. remove the lug nuts and the wheel

    2. Remove the lower caliper bolt and pivot the caliper

up out of the way. (If I remember the caliper bolt is 11mm but could be larger) the caliper bolts come through from the back of the caliper through the caliper and pads to the outer side of the caliper. The caliper bolts have a rubber boot between the bolt head and the caliper. You may need to hold the square lock washer in place with an open end wrench if the bolt turns but doesn't come out as the bolt sometimes rusts to the guide. Also, you may have to loosen the upper caliper bolt to get the caliper to pivot upwards.

    3. Remove the pad shims, pad retainers and pads

    4. Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove any rust, and

    check for grooves and cracks.

    5. Check the brake disc for damage and cracks.

    6. Install the pad retainers

7.Apply Molykote M77 grease to the inner side of the

pad shims and the back of the pads. Wipe excess

    grease off the shim.

    8) push the caliper pistons back into the caliper using a special tool or a large set of channel lock plyers. be sure to leave the inner brake pad in place when pushing the piston back to avoid damage to the piston or seal

    9. Install the new brake pads and pad shims correctly.

    10. Pivot the caliper down into position, then install the lower

    caliper bolt and tighten it.

    11. Depress the brake pedal several times to make sure

the brakes work, reinstall the wheel, tighten the lug nuts then road-test.

Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac??

I'm going to attempt to change the brake pads on my 2004 Sport Trac. I have completed two brake jobs in the past, but had a friend with me who used to be a mechanic. Can anyone give me any pointers or assistance with how to go about changing the pads?? I'm also planning on changing pads on a 2003 Ford Taurus...is it the same way to change both? I know both have front disc brakes...please help.Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac??Both vehicles are fairly straight forward. I would buy a Haynes type manual or go to the Ford dealer and see if they will photocopy the shop manuals. Be careful with the Sprt Trac beacuse if you turn the steering without the engine running(as we do with most front brake jobs) it will get an air pocket in the steering system that will have to be bled out or driven until it bleeds itself. If you drive the sport trac with the air pocket in the steering system it will appear fine until you get to the highway and go around a bend at which time it will shake so violently you will think a wheel has fallen off. Trust me it is not fun. I suggest going to a shop that has free brake inspection re check your work and I suggest to buy a good torque wrench and tighten the wheels to spec. Good luck.Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac??Buy the maintenance book from an automotive store. Purchase the pads and the right tools, they are star headed bots that have to be removed. They are not allen keys anymore.

Several very old tools can do the job with one new star head bit on a rachet.Does anyone know how to change the brake pads on a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac??My local Ford dealer does a great job at that. Why try when for a few bucks you can have a pro do it, also if you screw it up, nada, if they screw it up, big buck payday awaits.

    Motorcycle front brake friction?

I have a1981 Yamaha 650, and i just changed my front brake pads. The fit was extremely tight and now it seems to grind on the caliper when im on the road. I find myself slowing down and not able to coast far at all. How do i release the pressure on the front brakes? Any help would be appreciated.Motorcycle front brake friction? They should release on there own. You need to determine if the master cylinder is releasing the fluid before you condemn the caliper. Remove the master cylinder cap and when you exercise the brake, there should be a little jet of fluid squirt up when you release the brake. Careful with the fluid, you don't want the fluid on you paint. Cover the top with the cap, open just enough to see the squirt. If the brake squirts, then the orifice is opening and it should be ok. If that test out OK, then it sounds like the caliper needs rebuilding. Not much to rebuilding, just cleaning out the bore to free up the piston and some new seals.Motorcycle front brake friction?sounds like you did not clean around the piston %26amp; push it in before you put the pads in,

piston not going back in enough.

easy way = remove pads - pump brake gently so piston moves out about 2mm there will be a ring of crud around it get an old tooth brush dip it in wd40 brush aroung the piston to clean the crud away wipe with a bit of rag now push the piston back in a G clamp will do this if not got one put old pads loosly in then get a large screwdriver %26amp; force the pads apart this will push the piston in, fit new pads bolt caliper back on,

NOW BEFORE YOU RIDE PUMP THE BRAKE UNTILL IT STARTS TO WORK job done,Motorcycle front brake friction? It sounds like the caliper piston is stuck in the bore. You will need to remove the caliper from the bike, with the pads in the caliper put a rag in between, shoot compressed air into the brake line opening, the piston should pop out. clean the piston and the bore, replace the seal and reassemble.Motorcycle front brake friction? For future reference, always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

The calipers may need to be rebuilt.

Gunk builds up under the seal .

The seal presses tighter against the piston, preventing it from returning on it's own.

I bought a 2005 suzuki s40 bouelvard and I was wondering if I should change brake pads?

I dont really know much about brake or brake pads but if they need changed I would like to do it. The front brake squeaks a little when I hit the front and I dont know if thats supposed to happen or if the pads need changed. I dont know how to tell if the pads are worn or not and I dont know how to get the caliper off either. Any help would be appreciated.I bought a 2005 suzuki s40 bouelvard and I was wondering if I should change brake pads?Brake pads are manufactured with a groove in the middle of that material that serves as a wear indicator. If you look in the side of the caliper, you should see this groove. If it is not there, then the pads are worn and need to be replaced. Also, there is a metal tab attached to the end of the backing plate on the pad assembly. When the pads wear down, this tab will contact the rotor and make a sound much like fingernails across a chalkboard. if you hear this noise, then that should also tell you new brake pads are in order. And one more thing, when you do the pads, inspect the condition of the rotors. The surface that the pad contacts on the rotor should be smooth and shiny. If you see gouges, grooves, or roughness in the rotor, the rotor might have to be replaced also. You do not want to cut corners when servicing brakes. Bad brakes on a car makes it dangerous and even life threatening so make sure your brakes are as good as you can get em.

Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?

I just changed the front brakes on my '01 Acura TL, but I've left the original pads on the rears and haven't bled the lines. My pedal feels squishy and when I start my car it can almost reach the floor before I give it a few pumps then it's fine again. Should I bleed the lines? Is there any other way to fix this without bleeding because I haven't done this before and I'm not sure how.

FYI I replaced the stock brakes with EBC brake pads.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?SOMETIMES WHEN YOU CHANGE THE BRAKES ON YOUR CAR, THE FIRST TIME YOU PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN AFTER CHANGING THEM IT WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT'S BECAUSE YOU COMPRESSED THE CALIPER IN WHEN YOU CHANGED THEM.IT TAKES A FEW PUMPS TO PUMP THEM BACK OUT.

IF IT STILL DOES IT AFTER THAT YOU GOTTA BLEED THE AIR OUT OF THEM. JUST GET YOUR BUDDY TO SIT IN THE CAR AND PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL UNTIL IT'S TIGHT AND THEN HOLD IT TIGHT UNTIL YOU CRACK THE LINE.IF YOU GET AIR AND NO FLUID , REPEAT THE PROCESS UNTIL YOU GET NOTHING BUT FLUID.REPEAT FOR THE OTHER SIDE. USE A LINE WRENCH ON THE NUT ON THE BRAKE LINE WHERE IT GOES INTO YOUR CALIPER.

IF YOU STILL GOT A FUNKY PEDAL.CHANGE YOUR BACK BRAKES.YOU'D BE SUPRISED HOW THE BACK BRAKES AFFECT YOUR PEDAL, AND HOW YOUR CAR STOPS. EVEN THOUGH YOUR FRONT BRAKES DO MOST OF THE WORK.

GOOD LUCK!!Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?If you get in an accident and it's found out that it was your fault, your insurance can deny coverage.

Pep Boys will change out ALL the fluid in the brakes for $49Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?Air compresses, but brake fluid doesn't. Sounds like you need to bleed the brake lines.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this? You will need to bleed your brakes, it sounds like you have some air in the lines. The same thing happened in my old car when we changed the rear brakes. I had the same feeling and we had to go back and bleed them. Once that was done they were fine. Bleeding the brakes is not too hard. I would google it or look on car forums. My boyfriend did it, and I sat in the car pumping the brakes for him while he did that. I know it wasn't too hard, but I could not see what he was doing to tell you exactly. It only took about 20 minutes until that part was all said and done.....Good luck!Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?If you only changed the brake pads, you shouldn't have to bleed the brakes. You may have bad front calipers, the pistons may be forzen and not extending all the way out. You also may have frozen caliper slide pins and the caliper may not be able to move freely. Jack up the front end and have someone apply the brakes. Try spinning the front wheels by hand, if you can move them, inspect the caliper slide pins, make sure the pins allow the caliper to freely move in and out. If you did not open the brake lines (Bleeders) and you did not have this problem %26quot;Before%26quot; replacing your brake pads, I would suspect, incorrectly installed brake pads or bad brake calipers. I would need to know more information as to why you replaced brakes in the first place, in order to help you diagnose this condition. Also need to know if you ran the master cylinder low or opened the bleeders for any reason.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?bleed themSquishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?I believe bleeding the brake lines is in order. u start with the longest brake line and end with the shortest to ensure that no bubbles are in your brake lines. pumping the brakes builds pressure in the lines and is why you get stopping power. it is essential to fix the problem ASAP! if you are involved in an accident, knowing of the problem makes you liable. also, i believe it is illegal to have a vehicle on the road with such problems and insurance will not cover. bleeding the lines is fairly easy and can be done in usually less than an hour. call auto parts store to ask for details.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this? You got to bleed the lines if you have a squishy pedal. Get someone to help you do it. Start with the RR brake then LR, RF,LF. That will get all the air out of the system. Make sure you have plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?you have air in your brakelines, you need to have them bled by someone who is familiar with brake work, usually it is better to have two people to do this job.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this? You need to bleed your brakes. No way around it. You may want to see if you have any buddies who have done it before and have them come and help you. It is complex.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?you have to bleed the brakes, anytime the pedal acts like you say it does it has air in the lines.Squishy brake pedal after changing front brakes, how can I fix this?just changing pads, you shouldnt have air in the lines.ive changed alot of brakes, and i never bled the brakes.when you have to bleed brakes is when you break a line, change a wheel cylinder, break a hose or change a master cylinder.probably the reason your brakes are squishy is the pads are new and they got to get harden up for the rotors.drive it a while.now you probably will smell them, but thats ok,cause they are getting harden up.

  • Brake pads still okay after 53,000 miles?

I just changed my front brake pads for the first time on my 2000 mazda protege with 53,000 miles on it. I was pleasantly suprised to see that the old pads were not completely worn out.

How long do front pads usually last?Brake pads still okay after 53,000 miles?Highway driving is the key, stop and go traffic is the fast way to go through brake pads and rotors. Heat is the number cause of brake pad wear, if they don't heat up they last twice as long. If you get 12k on a set of pads or rotors them your in the norm. Even if you don't feel or hear anything different in your brakes, keeping an eye on them with an inspection once and a while is a good idea.Brake pads still okay after 53,000 miles?Depends on quality of pads plus how you drive. Some only last 25,000 miles some 60,000 miles or more.Brake pads still okay after 53,000 miles? There is no real answer to that question. It depends on the composition of the brake pads. You could have the regular pads, or semi-metallic, or the new ceramic type, with the ceramic lasting the longest of course.

Then there is the factor of how aggressively the brakes are used. Someone with a light touch will obviously wear the pads down at a slower rate than the person doing panic stops.

You did an amazing job. Generally they recommend brakes be checked yearly, which would be around 12,000 miles.Brake pads still okay after 53,000 miles? Both Gary and okla have good answers, a another thing to consider is the type of area you live. I live in a fairly rural area and I'll get 50 to 75 K out a set of brakes. I've also worked on cabs near Chicago and the brake were only good for 5,000 miles, LOTS of stop and go.

How to change rear brake pads on 2007 G6 convertable?

I changed the front with ease but I can't compress the caliper piston on the rear. Is there a special way to do that? How to change rear brake pads on 2007 G6 convertable?might be screw in type piston look at them see if there is a notch or slots cut into piston if so will have to go rent a tool for it most likely why most parts store can get it and you can find many car repairs by typing

how to replace name of part

add video to end of it and might find one asl well but most likey screw in type piston why they wil not push in my car one of my cars same way i rented tool at autozoneHow to change rear brake pads on 2007 G6 convertable?Yeah, since the E-Brake works the rear calipers they don't move straight in and out, they rotate as they move in and out. You need to buy the tool to turn then in which you can get for about $40-50.

The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?

Apparently I have 5% left, but they're not squeaking or grinding in any way- how soon should I be worried about making this change? The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? You can do a brake job by yourself.

The process is pretty much the same for all vehciles. I've been refering people to this web site for Instructions on how to change brakes. Rob gives a good illustrations, and his web sit can be found here:

    http://www.********.com/lessons/brakesho

    Warning:

    1. I would definitely recommend jack stands under a car, never do a brake job with just the car jack.

    2. Always use a fixed size wrench, never use a cresent wrench as illustrated by Rob

    3. Otherwise his instructions are pretty well written and can be found here.

Oh and he's replacing brake pads, not shoes as he has incorrectly called them from time to time. Shoe are for drum brakes, pads are for disk brakes.

Also it is recommended to get the rotor's thickness measured (to ensure they are not too thin) and resurfaced for best braking.

These instructions are of course for front brakes. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?It isn't very hard to do but if you don't have any mechanical experience, then, i would let the profesionals do it. rather be safe then sorryThe front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?Listen for a high-pitched squeal...that's the wear indicators. When you hear that, do 'em as soon as possible. If they get metal to metal, it's too late...you're looking a getting your rotors turned then. Shouldn't take but less than an hour to do 'em both. And use some anti-squeal stuff behind the pads when you install 'em.The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home? The answer to your first question is: (survey says), not at all. This is a fairly simple task. Tools required: wheel caulk, floor jack, jack stand, drive ratchet, 14mm socket, a disk brake tool or a C clamp, and a tire iron or cross. To get started on this job park the car so it is on a slight incline. Set the parking brake and place wheel caulk(s) behind rear tire(s). Before raising vehical loosen lug nuts on both tires. Next place floor jack in front of vehical and slide under to the cars crossmember. This is a central main beam that craddles engine and supports suspension. Find at best its center and raise. Once in the air you might find that even though your dead center when you raised it one side is higher than the other, don't worry it will always be like that. Place jack stands at jacking points for your car. If you don't know where they are you can find it in your owners manual or a repair manual or I could just tell you. Right before the wheel well of the front tires you should see a lip that putrudes a bit more than the rest of the under siding. Thats your jack point. Remove lug nuts and tire. Next with your ratchet and 14mm you will need to remove two(2) bolts from the brake caliper. On the otherside of the calpier at each end are the bolts. These will take a little convincing to loosen the bolts. Before the bolts are removed find something the caliper can perch on. Do Not let the caliper just hang there by the brake hose. Remove old pads, inspect rotor for grooves, thickness should still be ok unless you do a good amount of hard braking. Next remove the cap to the brake fluid reservoir. Try not to leave cap off for too long for brake fluid is gyroscope. Meaning it absorbes moisture from the air. You shouldn't need to add any brake fluid. Next with a brake caliper tool or C clamp push the piston, (that cylintrical piece) back in making sure the boot telescopes uniformly back as well. You should notice the fluid in the reservoir rise as well. Next insert new pads and slip caliper over the rotor. Bolt back on and repeat on other side. Once you are done there shouldn't be any extra parts, the pads don't count as extra because you started with 4 new ones and now you have 4 old ones. Tighten reservoir cap and wa-la, done.

The answer to your second question is that disk brakes have there own timely reminder system. When they start to squeak is when they should be changed, or if you feel a hard grinding when applying the brakes. If your wondering how do pads do that well the ones you took off look at them. You see a popsicle stick size of metal that comes from the back of the pad but ends up on the side just a little. Thats your indicator. When metal rubs agaisnt metal it creates a squeaking sound and it gets louder and louder until replaced. So until your breaks start squeaking is when you should change them. Join me next week folks as we look at rocket engines and there muliple uses at home. The front brake pads on my 2004 Honda Civic VP coupe need to be changed- is this difficult to do at home?As others have said, changing your brake pads is pretty easy, if you've got any mechanical inclination. But make sure you do it on time - brake pads are cheap, but if you try to eke out every last mile from the pads, you could wreck your brake rotors - and fixing them is a lot harder than just replacing the pads.

The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?

I bought a suzuki swift from a careful lady driver in september 2006. It was/still is in good condition. I recently had the tyres changed on the vehicle and when i was in the garage, an engineer pointed out that the front disc pads were looking worn down, he even suggested to have them replaced. I didn't have them replaced because my car was booked in the next day for a service. When the car went in for a service i mentioned to the people at the service desk to check the brakes as the pads were wearing down and have recenlty been squeaking. I just call the garage to enquire about how the service went and they said everything is fine. They said that the front break pads were ok. I am some what surprised and thought that they were going to be replaced. Any comments welcome!!The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?if the garage carried out a service on your car then checking the brake pads comes as standard on a service in my experience from working on cars some times the pads just need abit of cooper grease on them where they make contact with the calliper if you had your tyres fitted at a quick fit or one of them places then they are none for telling people that they needed new brake pads or shock absorbers that's how they make there money scum bags but I'm sure if the garage carryed out the service right they would of told you the brake pads needed changing its in there interest or if they was low they would normally tell you they need changing in a couple of thousand miles or so or in the next service which ever was closest hope this helps take care and remember that brakes are important so if worth getting a second look by someone else if they say they need doing get in touch with the garage that carryed out the service and ask why it wasn't picked up be careful out thereThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?the squeaking on the brakes is a sure sign of wear..get them replaced...the next thing is if you don't replace them the metal will be rubbing on the plates or drum.causing more expense later..ask the garage why they didn't change them and next time take the car to a garage that is prepared to listen to you..The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?on the calipers, there are two metal brackets that hold the pad itself, that is probably what is squeaking, they sell the lubricant at auto zone for 1.00 and is fairly easy to put on. about 5 minThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? Some break pads squeek. Usually the cheaper ones.Remember you have pads on the back as well that can squeek. I would ge a second opinion though. The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?Yes you definitely need to replace your brake pads. Because you didn't do it before you may even have to replace your rotors. Please have them checked out too. ASAP!!!!!The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?Sounds like there its dust on the brake lining. If they said the brake were fine then don't worry. It seems to me that maybe the original engineer may have wanted to make some money from you.The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?after mark break pads do squeek but should go away after a week or two also theres a warning bolt in most break pads to let you know when your pads need to be replaced take off the front tire and see how much pad is left and that will tell the whole storieThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? The squeak from disk brakes are usually caused by a dry metal plate which is placed behind the pad to stop stones and grit. Ask the garage (if they haven't done this) if they would put some copper grease between the plate and pad for you. It takes seconds with the wheels off so it should not cost more than a few pounds. The front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing?it might not be the brakes that are sqeeking it could be the suspenions or bearings that could b doing it when u brakeThe front brakes on my car are squeaking. Do the brake pads need replacing? If your brakes are making noise, they probably do need to be replaced. Under the actual pad material on them is what are called squealers. They look like rivets. They make noise to let you know your pads are worn out. If they wear down to bad they could start eating away at your rotor. And that can be expensive. I would have your pads changed.

How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?

is it a easy job to do?How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)? It takes about 15 minutes.

In the front (on each brake) there are 2 pad spring bolts. You remove them and the pad spring, then pull out the clip and remove the pad pin.

When you put the new pads in, you need to push the caliper pistons in by hand as far as you can, install the new pads and replace the pad pin, clip, pad spring and bolts. Make sure the clip is to the outside of the pad.

The back brakes you must remove the caliper by unscrewing the mounting bolts. Take the caliper off the disc, remove the clip and pad pin, then take out the old pads.

To install new pads, push the piston in and reverse the above procedure.

You should get a service manual as the illustrations are just as helpful as the text. You can probably find a used one on ebay or at http://www.alibris.com or http://www.biblio.com for cheap. How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?it's easy....all u need is the service manual and the right tools. it'll walk u thru it step by step. is cheaper to get the manual than to pay for the shop time. How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?Remove the 2 bolts holding each caliper on. Push in on the old pads to move the pistons all the way in. DO NOT PULL THE BRAKE LEVERS WHILE CALIPERS ARE OFF! Remove the 2 screws that hold the anti-vibe springs on top of the calipers. Pull the cotter pin on the pin that runs through the top of the pads. Pads should fall out. Install new pads and all components in reverse steps. Install calipers...do not touch rotors or pads with your fingers...oil from fingers causes squealing brakes. Pump levers to seat pads to rotors and check fluid levels. Good Luck! How to change the brake pads on a zx6r kawasaki 1999 (front and rear)?Yes it is an easy job if you have the skills and tool to do it

    BUT

As you have to ask how on here and this is your brakes we are talking about I doubt if you do possess the necessary skills and tools to do this and I mean no offence but safety is paramount.

Local bike shop would not charge a fortune to do this and you would be happy in the knowledge that it was done properly.

You need to put safety up there at the top and keep safe

If I want a back yard mech. to do it, and change front brake pads, how much in labor should it be???What does putting a brake rotor on a 2000 Escort zx2 entail? On the Ford Focus, it is just a matter of taking off the wheel, unbolting the caliper, removing the pad and rotor and reversing the process with the new materials. I would imagine no more than 30 minutes per wheel. Shops usually charge $50+ an hour. You do the math.

I have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??

I will go to an Infinity dealership. So around how much am I looking at??? It is a sedan by the way..........thanks alotI have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. Anyone know how much it costs??Pads themselves are fairly inexpensive items, and can be replaced by almost any home mechanic armed with only the simplest tools. Resurfacing the rotors, (like regrinding brake drums), checking the brake pistons, cylinders, lines, seals, and such, are another thing entirely. The total cost of a Brake job is going to vary greatly depending on (1.) where and who does it, and (2) what all needs attention to perform it , besides just replacing the pads. Pads can be bought for as little as eight dollars a pair, for most passenger cars, from some sources.I have a 2004 Infinity G35. My front brake pads need to be changed. How do I compress caliper piston to fit new pads?depends on how it is made. i know on some cars the caliper piston screws back in you can get the tool at almost any part store. if it just pushes in first take off the cap where you put brake fluid in. if it is full suck out some fluid and leave the cap loose. Don't forget to push bolting mounts back as well. I normally remove these and brush them then put some antiseize lubricant on them for smooth operation.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??

I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX by the way. The last time the brakes were changed was shortly before I bought the car from a private party last April of 2007. I haven't noticed problems stopping but then again I don't want to wait until they get to be paper thin to replace them either. I'd like to keep myself and anyone in my car safer with brake pads changed on a regular schedule just like changing my oil and filter. Thanks!I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??the fronts really do most of work i'd change every 10,000 miles do the back at same time hard to do... maybe 1/2 hour each wheel. do fronts first! get a friend to helpp.. it's good for convesation at least!I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Hi, brakes change will depend on your braking habit. Hard braking means you will wear them out more. Gentle and gradual braking will conserve your brake pads. You can drive 100,000miles and hit your brakes once and they will be as good as new.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??City driving with lots of stop and go will wear brakes more than open highway driving, so the type of driving will play a part in the wear of your brakes.

I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Your vehicle drive train will also wear brakes more. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??Disc brake pads have a sensor built in on them. It all depends on how much you drive your car. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??A good breakpad should last up to 100,000 miles.I have disc brakes in the front and back. How often (miles or time) should I change the brake pads??On all autos, with disk brakes, the brake pad has a flexible metal tab, that creates a %26quot;skreching/rubbing%26quot; noise when the thickness of the pad becomes unsafe. In most cars, the front wheels/brakes will wear faster than the rear pads. The amount that the car is used, whether in the city with a lot of stop and go traffic, or in the country, with long open driving condition, will determine the frequency of need to %26quot;re-do your brakes%26quot;. Of importance, if you do hear the sound of scrapping/rubbing noise, if allowed to go too long, will cause your brake rotors to wear abnormally. Making additional cost of brake repair. Usually when detected early, changing the pads frequently will prolong the life of your rotor, and even the calipers holding the pad will last longer. Your oil, and engine maintenance will be required a lot more often than the need to replace your brake pads. Most auto service centers, will provide a courtesy walk around inspection of your car when you take it in for your routine oil change service. A sign of wear of your brakes, is sometime seen as a black dust/powder showing through your wheels.

How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?

I have a Nissan Altima '97. I think it's just the front brakes that need replacing... How much should it cost at the garage to change if I don't buy my own? I'm a youngish girl and I'm aware they try to rip us off... ugh. :(How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?Buy the pads and have a friend do the work. The rotors will have to be turned or replaced. A garage would cost about $250, but that doesn't include replacing the rotors (in most cases). How much does it cost to change the brake pads in my car?Go the dealership and buy your own genuine pads and rotors. Many modern cars are designed to replace the rotors when the pads wear down anyway. They engineer things like this to save weight. You can do this job yourself with a few hand tools. Use ALLDATA data base found in many libraries, or a Haynes manual for your specific car brand. Keep the old rotors, have them inspected for proper thickness, and have them turned for the next time you need brakes. They probably are too thin, anyway. If they are re-usable, coat them in grease and sotre in wax paper. Don't forget that you need to have your brake fluid changed every 2-3 years. READ your owner's manual to understand why. Brake fluid wears out, just like oil and trans fluid. WHen it goes bad, the acids in it eat away at brake seals. Once again, use only GENUINE NISSAN brake fluid.. Mixing different brake fluids together can cause severe component issues. How do I change the brake pads on a 1997 Volvo 850? I can't get the caliper back on...?

I got the old brake pads off, but now the caliper is too thin to fit over the new pads. I think I didn't do something called 'collapsing the caliper'... How do I do this?

They are the front brakes. How do I change the brake pads on a 1997 Volvo 850? I can't get the caliper back on...?Relax it's easy, first open the brake fluid resivor because when you do calape the resivor the extra fluid has to go somewhere, you might want to put a rag under it to catch any extra fluid,

then get a large c clamp and while using an old brake pad collapse the piston on the brake caliper, all the way slowly.then install the new pads and you want to put some anti seaze on the bolts that hold the caliper onto the front end, also on the back of the pads youll want some anti sqweeke, thats an easy brake job, good thing you didnt ask about new rotors. ok if you dont have a c clamp you can use agjustable plyers that would hold from the back of the caliper and the old pad and it might take some more pressure

I can't get the caliper back on...?If you bought your pads at Auto Zone or Checker, they have a loaner program for special tools (free) and can advise you. If your caliper is on the end of the car where the emergency brake operates off the caliper, the pistons will have to be rotated clockwise as you compress (requiring a special tool). Also, to set the newly installed pads (after assembly) the emergency brake handle must be lifted about 3 clicks and the brake pedal pumped about 50 times. This extends the pistons out to their correct position without over tightening them. Failure to lift the e-brake can result in pads binding against the rotor and a car that will not move.

What causes a grabbing noise like after changing the front brake pads on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?

It was making like a grabbing noise ( don't know how to explain it) every time you stepped on the brakes. Replaced the front brake shoes (which was worn down and needed to be replaced) Took it for a test drive and now that noise is alot louder then what it was before. It is coming from the passenger front side. I noticed on that right side rotor passengers side it had some grooves in the rotor. Which means that the brakes been down to far. But anyway the new shoes should wear in where it shouldn't make any noise but still does. Got over 50 miles on the new brake shoes. Would the wheel bearing be going out on that side? That is my only thought now. What causes a grabbing noise like after changing the front brake pads on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan? There has been a rash of bad pads on the market recently. Some pads emit a gas when heated up just a little. Essentially Fart ing out between the pads and rotors making a horrible groan at very low speeds.

How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?

Whats with this people wanting to change my brake disc of a 2 year car ?

I have a Toyota and I change the brake this like one time, and it have 14 years (2002)

I understood that the brake disc deteriorate if you dont change your brakes pads on time, when is needed

I have only change my brake pads on time and was on time, as soon as the light sensor went off, I change the pads

Now the sensor is on and I went where I bought the car to buy my pads but it seems they want me to change both front brake discs, so I went to another recognize BMW part shop and they told me I need to change the four of them!

I want second opinion on this cause I dont think its that neccesary or it deteriorate that fast

With your opinion I'll check again in a particular mechanics and see if Im a need of new brake disc

Thanks in advanceHow come I have to change my BMW brake disc already? You really must not have driving your Toyota that much or did much braking in that vehicle, or your driving habits have changed with the BMW over the Toyota.

My wife's 2003 Corolla needs a brake job about every 18 months. She drives in very hilly areas and applies her brakes more frequently.

I drive a 2004 Pontiac Vibe (the same as a Toyota Corolla with a different upper shell). Have not had to replace the brakes yet and last inspection still had 50% of my brake pad left.

Brake pad replacement depends on your driving habits and braking frequency. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion. (It rarely ever does), but not sure how you got 14 years on a single set of brake pads unless you didn't drive that much.

Ok, your talking about the disk rotors, I misunderstood your question. These days manufactures do make rotors out of cheaper metals to minimize brake noise. You can purchase rotors made from higher quality metals that last longer from an auto parts store. Just ask them for the higher quality rotors.

Most manufacturer's have a minimum thickness that is recommended for the rotors as well. These days they don't make rotors as thick to reduce weight and allow for better cooling of the brake area. This unfortunately amounts to having to change the rotors a bit more frequently. From personal experience this is typically every other brake job for the original OEM brake rotors. (ie you can get them turned(machined) once, but typically not twice)

Next time you have the brake rotors replaced, ask for the higher quality rotors. They are more expensive (typically by 50% more), but they will keep you from having to replace them as frequently. How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already? Many new cars need complete brake overhaul after two years, when I first heard of this it surprised me as well. I think it has to do with the cars sitting on lot for long time and actually starting to rust and detoriate just sitting there. You would never think to pop off the tires and check out brakes before buying on a new car, but maybe you should. How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?BMWs are heavier, tires are wider, wheels larger and speeds greater which puts stress on the braking system.Brake repair produces the greatest profits and people do not resist because it is a safety issue.Air conditioning in Florida is a must so people bend over and accept the price for repairs. You could do the work yourself if you were the ultimate repairing machine,if mechanics make $50 an hour then every hour you spend under the hood is a pay raise.Get rid of those projector headlights before damage is done to your chassis and the loot fenced on eBay.How come I have to change my BMW brake disc already?if the pads wernt grinding and there was not plusating of the brake petel or shaking the rotor its fine. normaly when u have your brake pads replaced they want to replace ur rotors.

How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?

    Hi,

My car is 01 Hyundai Sonata.

I recently had a car check up and the precision tune auto shop recommended me to get new ceramic brake pads and rotors and change the transmission oil, motor oil, brake fluid and the battery.

For those works, how much SHOULD it cost for me?, meaning what's the normal price range for the job?

They wanted $640. Do you think that cost makes sense?

I live in Northern California, near San Jose.

I'd appreciate your answers. Thank youHow much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Parts cost is about $60 for pads, $150 for rotors, $20 for tranny fluid, $20 for oil/filter, $10 for brake fluid and $85 for battery prior to labor you already are at $350, so 4.5 hours to do the job seems very good. Now, if you need all this work I don't know, I suggest getting a second opinion and compare with the scheduled maintenance list for your car and follow that. Tranny fluid every 30K, oil/filter 5K, rest of items as needed. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?I would say that is on the high end.

I would say that the most expensive things they are hitting you for are the pad and rotors, and the battery. These auto shops have most consumers accustomed to paying high prices for brake jobs, when in fact they are cheap (strictly speaking about changing the pads and rotars, not the ABS system, etc...).

The battery I'm guessing shouldn't cost over $65. You could do that yourself.

I would try to find a shop that would do it for under $450. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Well under $200 with quality parts if you do it your self. It's really easy stuff.

I just changed the front brake pads for my '02 VR6 Jetta. After putting everything back togetther, I found ou

...out that now I have to press the brake pedal all the way to the floor for the car to stop. It also comes with a %26quot;hissing%26quot; sound when I depress the pedal. Does it mean I have to take the front tires out again and repurge the brakes? How do I do it without having to bleed out all the brake fluid? Thank you so much.I just changed the front brake pads for my '02 VR6 Jetta. After putting everything back togetther, I found ouas with the other answer I do agree you probably are low on brake fluid and you may have not bleed the brakes properly if you do not have a vacuum bleeder for your brakes you have to make sure you push the brake pedal very quickly and repeatedly then push and hold the pedal hard as some one opens the bleeder nut and the pedal hits the floor do not let the pedal come up off the floor until the bleeder is tightened or you may suck air into the line if you did have a loose brake line you would loose all your fluid pretty quick but yes do check them all and make sure they are not leaking

also the power booster may be leaking but I doubt it very much if it was fine before the shoes where changed the hissing sound is probably Viacom from low fluid

hope this helpsI just changed the front brake pads for my '02 VR6 Jetta. After putting everything back togetther, I found ouSounds like low brake fluid, yes you will need to purge air again. Also brakes may not be adjusted properly. Also check for any leakage at master cylinder lines etc and also the lines at brake housing at wheel.I just changed the front brake pads for my '02 VR6 Jetta. After putting everything back togetther, I found ouWhy did you bleed the brakes if you were doing a pad slap? Totally not necessary unless you were completely flushing the system.

One other option is that you could have twisted the brake hose when you put the caliper back on. That can cause a soft pedal.

How can i lift the front of my truck up to change brake pads without a jack?

That's a good question. 10 guys? Or how about some kind of lever, like a small tree trunk braced against a rock or another log then sliding in your jack stand or whatever to keep the wheel up.

Another idea. Put a block of wood or jack stand or whatever at frame then let air out of tire to rest it on there. Great if you can get air back in tires.
